ABC Warriors

Arguably the most unremarkable member of the team, Happy made his debut in Prog 119 (by Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill), the first ever ABC Warriors story, and became possibly the first ever robot to look like a soused vagrant.

Try as they might, no artist could ever make Happy look like anything but the epitome of a dirty old man (complete with trenchcoat and WC Fields nose to boot), although none of them ever explained why a robot would have a beard...

You half expect Pat Mills, in one of his more mischievous moments, to have written an episode in which Happy is quietly urinating oil in the corner of a room, or rummaging through flyblown, burnt-out bins...

Honourables mention should also go to Tom Artis and Doug Hazlewood for their rendition of Hap on the cover of the ABC Warriors reprint series from Fleetway/Quality (right)...
...and Titan Books for resurrecting the cover of ABC Warriors Book 2 for their Mek-Nificent Seven collection (left), and bringing Happy back into the spotlight...
