ABC Warriors Mongrol ABC Warriors

"Perhaps Mongrol has a slight edge..."

"A beast-like machine built from robot remains by Lara: A girl who died so he might live..."

"...and who he longs to meet again."

"But only after a hero's death..."

Tell Lara by Simon Bisley

Formerly a robo-paratrooper, Mongrol met with a near fatal accident during the airborne assault on Zarnhem, that left his body destroyed, but his head intact. After several, long, agony filled days, his remains were discovered by two battle-combers, scavengers who salvaged the remains of dead robots and sold them to the Volgans for spare parts. One of them, Lara, took pity on Mongrol and worked through the night to re-build his body from the shattered remains of other robots. She finished the job moments before the Volgan Secret Police arrived to buy up the scavanged remains, but Mongrol's motor refused to start. The Volgans took Mongrol away and subjected him to vicious tortures to extract vital information, but only succeeded in ravaging his mind beyond all repair.

Now a rampaging beast, he escaped, and returned to Lara's home, to find her and her aunt brutally murdered by the Volgans. There was only one thought in his scarred mind: kill the Volgans and avenge his beloved Lara. But the Allies were equally terrified of Mongrol, and tried to destroy him, causing him to wage a one-man war against the Volgs, and smush anyone who got in his way. Tearing his way across the landscape, Mongrol raided Allied supply bunkers, stealing weapons to use. It was during one of these raids that Hammerstein found him. After helping to stop a surprise Volgan attack, the sergeant recruited the metal beast into his team for the original Mars mission. Mongrol's belief that he would go to heaven and meet his beloved Lara once more became the driving force of the metal ape. After being told by Deadlock that only good robots go to heaven, he became determined to live a hero's life and see his beloved again.

Although not much is known of what happened to Mongrol after the Mars mission, he found work with P.T. Bar-Num's 'Death Circus' on the free robot planet Mekka. He played the part of The Gawk, a giant metal monster that would be defeated by the heroic Spar-Tekus in every show. So long had he been playing that role, even he sometimes forgot who he really was. That was until he was found by Nemesis TheWarlock, and brought back into the ranks of The ABC Warriors to help save The Gothic Empire from a Terminator invasion.

After following Nemesis into The Time Wastes of Termight, Mongrol was dispatched with the other Warriors to repair the Watch it! by Simon Bisleydamage that The Warlock's son, Thoth, had done. During their journey, Blackblood broke the news to Mongrol that robots simply go to the smelter rather than heaven, so he would never see Lara again. As a result, Mongrol turned to his 'father' - a screwdriver.

After saving Terra from destruction, Mongrol followed the others to the planet Hekate, to collect the seven heads needed for the ritual that would spread Khaos throughout the Terran Empire. Mongrol was freed of the power of speech, but as compensation was bestowed with the instant reactions and speed of a natural born beast. After completing their mission on Hekate, Mongrol left for the Temple of the Night Mara's with Morrigun, and became nothing more than her mindless (and overly protective) pet. Both he and his 'mistress' joined The ABC Warriors again to take on the Terran super weapon Hellbringer.

Currently back on Mars, helping to keep the peace between the human colonists and the planetary consciousness, Medusa, many strange things have happened to the metal ape. During a confrontation with the human Bio Hazard Troops, his body was destroyed, forcing him to relocate his positronic brain into his new body. As a result, the action reactivated certain dormant neural circuits, giving him a higher intelligence, and a greater scope for tactical planning, which has led to more than one confrontation with Hammerstein. He also seems to have developed a taste for cigars.

Mongrol is still on Mars, attempting to increase the peace while a civil war between the Confederacy of Martian Industries and the Union of Martian Free States rages.
