"You'll learn to deal with Khaos, or Khaos will deal with you..."
Formerly the Grand Wizard of the Knights Martial, Deadlock and his brothers were given special authority to try and execute Volgan war criminals during the conflict. Rumours of secret ceremonies and strange experiments surrounded them, but unknown to anyone outside of the walls of their watchtower, they also studied the dark path to something they called Khaos.
Deadlock's status (and powers) made him a must for the Mars mission, so Hammerstein was dispatched to bring him in. After losing a duel, Hammerstein tricked the wizard into relinquishing his weapon, the Ace of Swords, and forced him into coming to the devil planet.
After the mission was complete, Deadlock returned to Earth to take command of his Knights Martial once more, but discovered much had changed in his absence. The watchtower used by the Knights to scan the planet from space had landed, and the Knights themselves were indulging in frivolous pursuits - ignoring the old values of meditation, purity and discipline which Deadlock cherished. In time they would be replaced by a new human order, The Terminators, who would twist those values into a doctrine of hatred for all alien life-forms.
Deadlock became increasingly isolated from his fellow Knights, spending years in his cell, meditating and studying ancient manuscripts, trying to achieve the ultimate ambition of all wizards: to reach the highest level of the astral plane, and join with his master Khaos. When he was ready, it was Nemesis himself who came for him, and they became one.
Centuries passed with no word of his whereabouts, until he finally reappeared in the Time Wastes of Termight, to assist his former comrades in saving the planet from destruction. Although his motives were unclear at first, he assisted The Warriors in their battles with The Monad (a creature from the end of time, created by Torquemada's purification plants), only to betray them when they finally reached their goal. With the assistance of Blackblood and Mek-Quake, Deadlock launched a fearsome attack on his comrades in a bid to stop them from repairing the damage done by Thoth, The Warlock's son.

Deadlock had been sent by his master, Khaos, to ensure the destruction of Termight thereby spreading Khaos throughout the galaxy. But realising The Monad intended to use the planet's destruction to turn Khaos into a force for Evil, Deadlock was forced to aid the Warriors in defeating the creature, thus keeping Khaos as an amoral force, but also leading him into the betrayal of his master.
Escaping the Time Wastes, Deadlock took control of The Warriors and led them to Nemesis' home planet, Gandarva, to settle a score. The repair of the Time Wastes had restored Order to the galaxy, and like Deadlock, Nemesis had also betrayed Khaos, for sending The Warriors on the mission in the first place. The two greatest exponents of Khaos fought literally to the death, only to be re-born, purged of their guilt.
After
a brief stopover for the Festival of Kaligo, Deadlock took The Warriors to the
planet Hekate, where they
collected the seven heads needed to make them fully fledged warriors of Khaos,
and finally spread Khaos throughout the galaxy.
Somewhere along the line (presumably after his disappearance) he managed to set up a Kollege of Khaos on the komet Tiamat, and after The Warriors victory on Hekate, returned there with the only member of the team who understood the twisting tides of Khaos even better than he: Ro-Jaws.
Having relinquished command to Hammerstein, he returned to Mars once more to discover the secrets of a zombie gang terrorising the Martian highways, but stayed on to help broker peace between the human colonists and the planetary consciousness, Medusa. Now, with civil war raging across the planet, Deadlock has stayed on to increase the peace.
