  PAT MILLS

Long time 2000AD veteran, and co-creator of ABC Warriors and Nemesis The Warlock amongst countless others, Mills got his start as sub-editor on romance comics for DC Thompson, before going freelance as a writer. His editorial skills remained in high demand, and he helped create some of the top titles for Fleetway, including Battle, Action and, of course, 2000AD. He also re-wrote the script for the very first Judge Dredd story, after John Wagner's original was deemed too violent. Numerous other Dredd tales followed, including the classic The Cursed Earth, some parts of which were actually banned in the UK. Click here to find out more.

Almost everything Mills has written has politics stamped all over it, none more so than his 2000AD work. This has met with mixed reactions in some quarters; some of his later ABC Warriors tales have contained more of his new age/chaos/Earth religion rants, which has been met with some criticism. However, his work has also won recognition not only for himself but a variety of artists, including Simon Bisley for his work on ABC Warriors and then Sláine. Mills and Bryan Talbot also won an Eagle Award for their work on Nemesis Book 4: The Gothic Empire.

With long-time collaborator Kevin O'Neill, Mills also created Metalzoic and Marshall Law, and helped to launch Fleetway's short-lived titles Crisis and Diceman. Over in America, he has penned Punisher 2099 and Ravage 2099 for Marvel, Zombie World for Dark Horse and Batman: Book of Shadows for DC.

Other Mills' creations for 2000AD include Ro-Busters, Flesh and Finn. He's also written the Deadlock solo series, with art by Henry Flint; the two went on to collaborate on the ABC Warriors stories The Third Element and Assault on The Red House.

In 2003, he returned to 2000AD once more with Sláine and The ABC Warriors.

  ALAN MOORE

What more can be said about Alan Moore? Currently one of the most celebrated writers in the industry, for his intelligent, insightful and innovative works. Like so many other British scribes, Moore got his start creating four and five mini-masterpieces for 2000AD (the first of which appeared in Prog 170, July 1980, called Killer in the Cab with art by John Richardson). He spent two years writing miniature gem Future Shocks, Time Twisters, Abelard Snazz and various one-offs learning the skills that would bring his talents greater recognition.

Moore finally got to write full-length series for 2000AD, creating Skizz with Jim Baikie and Halo Jones with Ian Gibson. He wnet on to script some of the later Rogue Trooper and Ro-Busters tales, before hopping over the pond to write for some of the American companies. With titles like Watchmen, Batman: The Killing Joke, From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentelmen under his belt, the rest, as they say, is history.
